Job details: Cisco is always looking to identify talented people, especially User-Centered Design Engineers. This position generally requires the following skills:
Work across Lines of Businesses (LOB's)to ensure ease-of-use of Cisco solutions; anticipates UCD issues and drives product development accordingly. Can present UCD requirements and processes to senior level executives for signoff. Can make successful requests for client-funding. A degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field, such as Human Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, or Computer Science, and at least seven years of experience conducting usability research and doing data driven UI design in a high-tech company. Demonstrated competence with and ability to mentor less experienced resources in virtually any deliverables in the UCD process. Recognized as an expert. Adept at mentoring others in developing and managing complex UCD project plans throughout development cycles. Good communication and influencing skills, and an ability to convince any level, including senior executives, of the need to incorporate UCD in their development methodology. Able to coordinate and set priorities for multiple UCD resources in a LOB. A detailed understanding of and ability to educate others about the UCD process in a high-technology product development environment. Must be highly skilled in two of the three UCD focal areas of usability testing, UI design, and ethnography, plus be highly skilled at process evolution and in developing growth models for the entire group. Experienced driving UCD process change across LOBs and integrating UCD activities as a de-facto process in an ROI environment. Leads UCD projects and project resources and sets priorities for the UCD team across an entire LOB. Sets tactical and strategic UCD direction within a LOB, working with management to ensure consistency of messages. Mentors and sets direction for less experienced resources with little direction from management. Influence others, Demonstrate leadership, Champion improvements, Manage Projects & Impact to product team, business unit and LOB strategy; Drives significant strategic change to the corporation with an impact of at least $2 million per year. Generally reports to senior manager/Dir; Progress against goals and objectives is measured by manager. Role model for teamwork in the department; Influences and negotiates at the highest levels of management on behalf of the customer; Delegates effectively. Sets UCD strategy across business unit and LOBs; Champion for UCD throughout Cisco at all levels, including executive staff; Anticipates roadblocks and eliminates; Mentors department, trains others; Leads business unit/LOB, CA and department teams. Solves the most complicated and highest criticality UCD issues across LOBs. Accountable for usability of all products in a LOB or across LOBs.
Preferred experience in Interaction Design, Visual Design, Usability Testing, and/or User Research
