Job details: The University of California (UC), one of the largest and most acclaimed institutions of higher learning in the world, is dedicated to excellence in teaching, research and public service. The UC Office of the President is the corporate headquarters to the ten campuses, five medical centers and three Department of Energy National Labs and enrolls premier students from California, the nation, and the world.

Salary: $58,500 - $81,900 (Midpoint of Range)

Job Duties:

Provide services to University Affairs and other UCOP clients as follows:

Conceptualize and develop innovative web and multimedia communications to support internet communications projects;

Ensure the translation of business requirements, user needs and technical capabilities into designs that are fresh, easy to use and address client needs. This includes translation of existing materials into web design or content;

Actively participate in web design development, coding and implementation and in the digital conversion of video files;

Assemble and update content in conjunction with relevant UC staff and programs;

Develop and provide web templates, support and training to department and other UCOP webmasters as appropriate;

Provide design, policy and content direction to creative staff and resolve creative issues;

Evaluate existing University Affairs products for best use of current media/technology to ensure effective messaging to targeted audiences;

Develop best practices, processes and innovations for integrating web sites into departmental activities and to speed development timeline and ensure messaging consistency;

Collaborate with the Publications Director in the development and establishment of unit style guides to ensure that web and other media conform to University of California and professional style standards. Design specifications for specific projects;

Oversee development of archive of on-line content, products, and materials including photos and graphics;

Develop and implement user interface testing for websites and interactive products.

Manage and coordinate multiple projects from inception to completion including webpage and website design and on-line products.

Prepare bids for web projects, developing and establishing project and production timelines, schedules, resources and costs.

Track and manage budgets, tasks and deliverables in order to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.

Develop alternative solutions and contingency plans when required.
Serve as the primary point of contact with internal clients and provide regular communications and expectations setting with the customer.

Coordinate and oversee provision of web development/applications programming services with IR&C; or external vendors as necessary and appropriate.

Collaborate with IR&C; to ensure appropriate technology interface and support for new communications technologies.

Collaborate with Executive Director, IR&C; managers and other UCOP electronic product producers in developing and recommending multimedia communication strategies for key issues and in identifying goals and objectives such as the development of new websites and communications products or reshaping/discontinuing existing websites/products;

Stay abreast of Web publishing guidelines in the Internet community (W3C) and Web site accessibility issues as they relate to ADA regulations and provide consultation and support to others for the development or revision of web sites and products that meet these requirements;

Facilitate web/multimedia advisory committees to share ideas and better understand client needs and promulgate the use of new media technologies.

Represent the University in systemwide Web design/publishing forums.

Coach, develop and manage in-house web services team.

Assign and review workload.

Job Requirements -- Required

Bachelor's degree in graphic design, multimedia or creative marketing or a related field and five or more years of professional design experience with a focus on internet technologies, branding, user interface design and development of interactive media.

Demonstrated supervisory experience that includes managing and motivating staff in an environment with concurrent tasks, changing priorities and resources utilizing work and project plans to maintain and meet deadlines.

Proven project management experience as demonstrated by a successful track record as a web project manager.

Demonstrated experience designing, coding and debugging web sites and products.

Thorough knowledge of web and multimedia tools including Dreamweaver, Flash, ImageReady, Photoshop, HTML, XML, CSS, Javascript and vector graphics programs, streaming media and video production and editing as well as of standard industry practices, techniques and strategies related to web and multimedia production.

Demonstrated knowledge of the University's research and education mission or the demonstrated ability to quickly acquire knowledge of same.

Proven ability to adapt to changing communications needs, adjust pace of work and tolerate ambiguity as well as to manage multiple projects simultaneously with a strong results/goal orientation.

Demonstrated possession of conceptual and logical abilities, strong planning and project abilities, excellent oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work calmly and effectively in situations under pressure and to manage time effectively in a changing environment.

Excellent client relationship skills and commitment to providing high-quality service, as demonstrated by the ability to develop collaborative, productive partnerships.
