The Institution
Sacramento City College is an urban college in a park-like setting located in the heart of the Sacramento metropolitan area. The College is a learning center for approximately 23,000 day and evening students. Founded in 1916, Sacramento City College is a place of tradition and history, with a vitality and diversity that is contemporary. The College consists of a main campus and outreach centers in Davis, Downtown, and West Sacramento. Classes are offered seven days a week, both day and evening. The faculty and staff of Sacramento City College value a humanistic approach to learning, teaching, and working together in a diverse community. The college is a part of the Los Rios Community College District and uses an interest based approach to dispute resolution.
Instructional Assignment
Under the general direction of the Advanced Technology Division Dean, the Computer Animation and Web Design Assistant Professor interacts with faculty and staff from several departments and divisions. The assistant professor's primary responsibility is to teach Animation Principles, 3D Animation, Modeling and Rigging, and beginning and advanced Web Design courses using current industry standard software (this might include 3DS Studio Max, Lightwave, Softimage, Maya, Dreamweaver and Flash). These classes may be offered in a distance education format. The instructor will use a learning and student-centered approach to assist in curriculum development and growth to meet the current and future needs of a rapidly changing professional environment. A strong candidate should also possess strong interpersonal and communications skills, as well as the ability to work independently and in a team. The faculty member will be responsible for staying current with the software and design theories used in courses. Teaching assignment may include day, evening, and weekend classes, on and off campus.
General Responsibilities
The faculty member shall also be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the division dean; being accessible to students by maintaining office hours; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; promoting the Graphic Communication Program; assisting department chairs and division deans with retention and completion of student certificates and degrees; meeting weekly with the Graphic Communication Department to discuss continuing issues and future plans; maintaining thorough and up-to-date knowledge in his/her regular teaching field including software updates as well as cutting edge design theory in the industry; connecting with the industry to discover their needs for classes, giving direction to Instructional Assistant or Senior Information Technology Technicians assigned to the lab; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with curriculum and articulation studies; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean and department's needs; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time instructor as outlined in the college faculty handbook.
We Value:
Knowledge of, primarily, design theory and the principles of animation, and secondarily, Web design. Applicant must be able to utilize many current industry standard animation and Web design applications to create an artistic vision.
Experience working in a learning environment and the ability to quickly and independently solve problems as they arise.
Willingness to learn new technologies in the animation and Web design fields and related industries.
Requirements
Have a bachelor's degree in art, digital media, graphic design, Web design or related discipline from an accredited institution completed by August 23, 2007 AND two year's related work experience; OR, have an associate degree in art, digital media, graphic design, Web design or related discipline AND six year's of related work experience; OR, hold a California Community College Instructor's Credential in Communication Services & Related Technologies; OR, the equivalent. Note: Applicants applying under the "equivalent provision" must provide details and explain how their academic preparation in the equivalent of the degrees listed above.
Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Salary
Entering annual salary varies from $37,934 to $69,880 depending upon units and degrees completed at accredited colleges/universities and on verified experience. Additional earnings may be available for summer, overloads and stipends.

Job Offer Requirements
