Laika Inc. is looking for Software Developer (Lead)

Job details: Award winning animation studio, LAIKA Inc, based in Portland Oregon and owned by Phil Knight, co-founder and chairman of Nike is seeking a Lead Software Developer to oversee day-to-day operations and provides leadership for the Information Systems group.



LAIKA/entertainment is currently in production on several animated feature films including: Neil Gaiman's "Coraline", written for the screen and directed by Henry Selick (The Nightmare Before Christmas, James and The Giant Peach); and "Jack & Ben", written and directed by Jorgen Klubien (Cars, Monsters Inc, Toy Story 2, A Bug's Life, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid). The company recently purchased the rights to one of the U.K.'s current best-selling children's novels, writer/illustrator Alan Snow's "Here Be Monsters". LAIKA/house is a dynamic community of filmmakers, designers and animators guided by a legacy of 30 years of animation history. Notorious for its skills in storytelling and character performance, LAIKA/house produces every type of animation in every medium.



Responsibilities:



* Ensure the availability and function of critical information systems

* Set day-to-day priorities for software development and support

* Serve as technical lead on all group initiatives

* Work with department heads and users to forecast requirements

* Work with IT Manager to establish group priorities and goals

* Supervise development and support staff

* Create reports and proposals as needed



Qualifications:



* Eight years experience designing, deploying and operating information systems for production environments

* Eight years experience designing, deploying and supporting email and calendaring systems

* Eight years experience developing and supporting PostgreSQL and MySQL databases and database applications

* Eight years experience developing and supporting Apache applications

* Eight years experience with RCS, CVS and Subversion

* Eight years experience programming with Perl

* Three years experience deploying and supporting finance, accounting and human resources applications

* Three years experience programming with Ruby and Rails

* Three years experience programming with XML and LDAP

* Three years experience programming with Filemaker Pro

* Three years experience working in a supervisory role

* Excellent troubleshooting skills

* Excellent oral and written communication skills

* Ability to communicate effectively with users of all abilities



Preferred Abilities and Knowledge



* Prior experience in animated feature film production

* Experience with RHEL, CentOS, MacOS X and FreeBSD

* Experience with high availability architectures

* Experience with Xen and Vmware

* Experience with Flash, Python and C++

* Programming experience with Nagios, SNMP and Ganglia

* Programming experience with Active Directory
