Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. (SCEA) is looking for Database Programmer

Job details: Database Programmer Responsibilities:
Develop and design database systems for application in real-time gaming systems. This includes high-level schema design and implementation, as well as lower level operating system and specification of network and server hardware.
Install and administer local development databases and support non-production DB issues.
Implement database access code (C,C++,Java via OCI, JDBC, PL/SQL) within the context of online gaming servers, and database access tools.
Create and interpret appropriate database benchmarks to quantify performance bottlenecks and propose solutions to enhance and optimize the overall scalability of the system.
Investigate and learn new database technologies (e.g., advanced queuing, multi-mastered replication, materialized views, array fetching, etc) as needed to implement new features.
Work with other SCE regions (including overseas travel) to help and diagnose issues in their DB implementations, and to serve as a gateway to incorporate ideas and best practices from their regions back into the core DB technology.
Troubleshoot and resolve database problems occuring in production environments.
Skills:
Professional and interpersonal communication (E-mail, phone, face to face). Interface with other SCEA groups (Tools and Tech, FPQA, PDSG, IT, etc), and with other SCE groups world-wide (SCEI, SCEJ, SCEK, SCEE, etc).
Understand programming process and basic workflow of receiving tasks and communicating task status/completion. Applicant has knowledge of good software practices, works efficiently and independently.
Understanding of, and experience with all aspects of database systems (including the internal workings), proper normalized schema design, data access algorithms and methodologies.
Knowledge of both proprietary databases such as Oracle, and of open-source databases such as MySql. Good C/C++, Unix shell scripts, SQL and PL/SQL, and of various access methods including OCI, ODBC, and JDBC, especially within the context of a multithreaded environment.
Knowledge of development environments such as Linux and Windows, and tools including sqlplus, Toad (From Quest software), compilers (e.g. gcc), build tools (make), IDEs (Visual Studio), source code and asset control systems (CVS, SourceSafe).
Ability to use, analyze and present findings from tools such as STATSPACK, with graphs generated on MS Excel or gnuplot. Ability to write efficient, clear (and well-commented), maintainable and portable code.
Research, analyze, and create technical design and implementation documents.
B.S. or higher in computer science, with approximately 10 years total development experience. Should have had roles in the career path that include software engineer, database administrator, and data architect.
