Foster City, California

We are seeking an R&D; Software Development Engineer. The R&D; Software Development Engineer will design and implementation of middleware components for PlayStation®3 and other devices. The position comprises design and implementation of C / C++ software intended to run on various hardware platforms. The software will provide the foundation of an SDK or technology targeted for other developers of the platform such as game developers.

Responsibilities:

- Game development * Consoles and/or embedded systems * Graphics (2D and/or 3D) * Audio / Video compression algorithms ? Networking * Performance, memory, and file size optimization. * Security * User interface development.

- The candidate should have a minimum of two years experience with C and C++ programming.

- The candidate must be familiar with software development tools including a variety of IDE systems, source control systems and issue tracking tools on Windows and Linux.

- Specific experience with Perforce, GCC, Visual Studio, and ProDG tools is a plus.

- Knowledge about scripting on UNIX is a plus. Knowledge of relevant technologies in consumer electronics and the computer game industry is an advantage. The candidate is expected to demonstrate self-motivation, and interest in learning and implementing new technologies.

- Requires a post-high school education or training. BS degree preferred.

- Strong software engineering skills (C, C++, scripting), as well as ability to work with development tools such as source control, make files, IDE.

- The ability to understand project objectives and translate them into detailed tasks to be executed on. The ability to track multiple tasks and estimate effort to meet objectives.

- A general understanding of the online games and the game console industry.

- The ability to follow processes and meet objectives to accomplish goals.

- Strong people skills - the ability to work with various groups of different skill sets ranging from business to technical and facilitate communication between them.
