| Linux & Windows hosting engineer Salary: Starting between £22K - £25K based on experience. Location: West Midlands Company: SupaNames Date posted: 18 Jul 2005 You will join our friendly technical support team of five as one of two hosting engineers. You will provide the following services for our 30,000+ users: - Investigate and promptly resolve upper level support requests. - Perform regular software and system updates across Linux & Windows platforms. - Constantly review and improve server performance. - Plan and develop future technical strategy, including hardware replacement, network improvement etc. - Work on a number of development projects to bring new and useful services to our customer base. - Automate routine tasks where possible to ensure efficiency. - Conduct all aspects of your work within important budget and time constrains. - Resolve out of hours serious technical problems, on a duty basis. - Install servers & equipment into our London data facility from time to time. Knowledge requirements: Linux & Windows 2003 administration experience and an extensive understanding of Common Internet Applications (e-mail, Web, HTML and FTP) are essential. Knowledge covering some or all of Apache, IIS, Qmail, MSSQL, MySQL, Perl & DNS would be desirable. Previous work experience within the web hosting / ISP industry would be extremely useful. Other requirements: You must be based in the UK, within commuting distance of our office in Stoke Prior, Bromsgrove, West Midlands (just outside Birmingham). You must have good English skills and a full driving license. You must be prepared to work flexible hours and be able to provide duty cover outside of office hours.
