Ntl is the UK’s largest broadband ISP with over 1.4 million high speed internet customers. It has recently announced plans to increase connection speeds to all broadband customers to 10Mb. Allied to this, ntl is investing more focus in online content and in its portal, ntlworld.com – which with 65 million page impressions a month is in the top 20 UK websites. JOB PURPOSE: Designs, develops, builds and maintains web sites for the UK’s largest broadband ISP portal. Creates supporting assets/advertising (images / flash) for marketing and promotion. Ensures quality and consistency in design and UI across all web sites. JOB SCOPE: The scope of the role includes: - Creation of a variety of web sites - Creation and optimisation of images, flash files and other media - Enhancement and maintenance of the ISP portal - Ensures that web sites are accessible from a variety of browsers and platforms (incl. screen readers) KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: • Consistently create fresh and exciting designs • Work with various departments (e.g. advertising, commercial, product) to balance various requirements whilst maintaining the integrity of the ISP design • Be aware of new standards, technologies and trends and be able communicate these where required • Produces a consistent visual image on the web sites including maintenance of templates, page components and image archives • Ensures that images are delivered to the viewer at sufficiently high speed and quality • Proactively troubleshoot and repair bugs and problems • Become the ‘champion’ of your designs and creative • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. • Works closely with Editorial, Internet Product, Design and Development teams to ensure the overall success of the portal. Experience: Essential 3 years experience in web design. You will have excellent knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, and be able to give examples of previous work. You will also have a good working knowledge of Flash and Illustrator You will be able to hand code some of the following: HTML, XHTML, CSS, DHTML, and not rely on WYSIWYG editors. In-depth understanding of how the Internet works, how the audience interacts with web sites and the latest developments and trends on the Net. Excellent time management skills with attention to detail and the ability to multi-task. Ability to thrive under pressure and deliver in a fast paced multi-project environment. Excellent communication skills with both non-technical team members and developers. Comfortable with change. Experience of working within virtual teams. Excellent design skills, developed within an Internet environment. Desirable Degree qualified – preferably in a related field – or with equivalent industry experience. Exposure working to W3C or WAI accessibility standards and a clear understanding of the principals that lie therein. Advanced knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and/or Flash Action Scripting Experience of working for a major ISP. Experience of PHP/ASP/PERL. Experience of Java Script programming.
