| Hosting Engineer (Windows) Salary: Competitive, Depending on experience, plus Benefits Location: North West Company: Zen Internet Date posted: 5 Jul 2005 Zen Internet requires an experienced and dynamic hosting engineer to join its rapidly growing hosting department. Working within a small, tightly knit team, the ideal candidate must have experience of a broad range of hosting technologies and processes together with good interpersonal and team work skills. Candidates must also be able to work on their own initiative in a pressured fast-paced environment. The overall job purpose is to provide third line support to Zen's hosting product set and to administer and maintain those products (both software and associated hardware) as part of the 3rd line Hosting Team. The team maintains all the domains held by our customers and also manages and installs the Linux and Windows based servers which hosting products are available on. Specific Duties & Responsibilities: * Managing Domain and Hosting Orders and DNS change requests * Handling Domain Transfers and Renewals * Dealing with support issues (and reaching a satisfactory conclusion) raised via the 2nd Line Support team * The building, patching, installing and upgrading of Web Servers * Working as part of the team on a Rota basis to provide 24/7 on-call support to the product set and therefore ensuring the product set is available 24/7 * Installation of SSL Certificates * General Systems Administration tasks * Ongoing development of the Product Set to ensure they remain competitive Essential Skills: * Excellent knowledge of Windows 2000/Windows 2003 preferably in a hosting environment. * Excellent knowledge of DNS and Bind. * Experience of supporting and administering IIS. * Good understanding of Server based Hardware and the ability to identify problems with that hardware and associated network infrastructure. * Knowledge and experience of SQL 2000 (ideally SQL certified) * An understanding of TCP/IP Networking and a practical experience in a LAN/WAN environment, to include the use of network switches and storage area networks. * Extensive understanding and experience of Common Internet applications and services * Previous experience of server builds, ideally in a similar role * Some experience of direct customer contact in an IT role. * Strong Interest in ISP based Technologies. * Driving Licence & Own transport. * Ability to provide 24/7 on-call cover on a weekly rota basis Desirable Skills: * Knowledge of Domain Names and Domain Name Registration and Transfer Processes. * Extensive experience of maintaining a Windows and Linux Web Server Platform in a corporate environment. * Good Basic knowledge of scripting languages (PHP, ASP, PERL) and ability to debug common scripting issues. * Experience of maintaining Internet based applications from a Security perspective. * Previous experience in a similar ISP based role. * Candidate should be working towards a MCSA\E qualification and already have gained MCP qualifications.
