The ideal candidate will work to create a truly vibrant vision of the department; all the while continuing to fit it into the organizations mission and goals. Key to the position is taking pride in recognizing and developing the strengths of each individual while leading the department to continue creating the highest quality work on-time and within budget. Blue Fang is the world-leader in the creation of games focused on the animal kingdom. Our Zoo Tycoon franchise, published by Microsoft Game Studios, has established itself as one of the most popular PC gaming franchises and has sold over 5 million units worldwide. We are in the process of developing new animal-focused franchises and delivering them on any and all appropriate platforms: PC, console and hand-held. Founded in 1998, Blue Fang Games is located outside Boston in Waltham, MA. Responsibilities: Create and drive the vision of the engineering department. Hire and develop a staff which combines technical excellence with a team- and company-oriented attitude. Collaborate with other departments to develop the best possible products. Evangelize the companys mission, values, and practices internally and externally. Manage relationships with executive management and other key internal and external parties regarding product status, plans, and risks. Raise the stature of Blue Fang and its engineering department. Coordinate and prioritize departmental work. Foster use of best development practices. Develop and execute risk management plans. Required skills/experience: Significant experience in both engineering and management. Experience hiring and mentoring technical talent. Strong leadership, motivational, and organizational skills. Experience fostering collaborative development among Engineering and other departments. Demonstrated ability to produce successfully-shipped software products in a lead or managerial position, from beginning to end of the development process. Highly enthusiastic about facilitating and participating in the creation of top-quality game titles. Ability to make quick and effective decisions. Proven ability to transform from entrenched practices towards best practices. Experience managing a staff of ten or more on multiple concurrent projects. Excellent written and spoken communications skills. Possess the awareness to know what you dont know, be comfortable and upfront about it, and ultimately compensate accordingly. Desirables: Experience writing code in C++ in a Windows/DirectX environment. Game industry development experience. Familiarity with agile software development techniques.
